Our Basic RiderCourse is approximately 15 hours long, conducted over a period of 2 consecutive days. It consists of pre-course online training, classroom exercises, and on-motorcycle or on-scooter instruction, and includes a variety of learning activities. Classroom experiences consists of approximately 5 hours of RiderCoach-led discussions and the utilization of interactive multimedia. As part of the classroom portion of your training, there is an eCourse component that must be completed prior to class attendance. This eCourse is a highly interactive online program that will provide you with the basics of motorcycling, and will get you ready for your training course. It takes approximately 3 hours to complete the online course, but can be completed in segments. However, it must be completed in its entirety, prior to class attendance, so make sure to allow time to complete your eCourse when registering for a class. Evaluation for the classroom portion consists of a 25 question knowledge test, to test your comprehension of the information covered in the eCourse, as well as information covered during the classroom exercises. On-motorcycle/ on-scooter instruction is conducted on a paved area away from street traffic. This portion of the curriculum consists of approximately 10 hours of instruction that includes 14 on-motorcycle exercises. Evaluation for the Basic RiderCourse consists of an end-of- course skill test. The course is based on years of scientific research and field experience which has successfully trained over 4 million participants to date. It provides you the basic entry- level skills to begin practicing and developing the mental and motor skills important for safe street operation. It provides you, whether you are a inexperienced, or an experienced motorcyclists, the basic riding skills, which you can then apply to street riding situations using defensive riding strategies. When you successfully complete the Basic Rider Course, you will receive a Texas Department of Public Safety standardized Motorcycle Operator Course Completion Card (MSB-8), specifying that you completed the Basic Rider Course. This card in most cases will allow you to waive the motorcycle license skills test, as well as qualify for Motorcycle Insurance Discount.

This is an excellent refresher course for practicing and renewing basic riding skills. And best of all, you get to use your own motorcycle! It is designed to improve your knowledge of street survival skills and skills in cornering, braking, and swerving to avoid obstacles. This course consists of approximately 5 hours of on-cycle instruction, on a paved area away from street traffic. Upon completion of Basic Rider Course 2, you will receive a Texas Department of Public Safety standardized Motorcycle Operator Course Completion Card (MSB-8), specifying that you completed the Basic Rider Course 2. This card may be utilized for ticket dismissal* and insurance discounts.

Here in the state of Texas you need a “M” class endorsement, whether you will be riding a motorcycle or a scooter. So, we train scooters and motorcyclist together, since many of skills needed to enjoy riding are the same! Scooterists signing up for the Scooter School will be taking the Basic RiderCourse, but will be riding one of our scooters during the training. As part of the Basic RiderCourse you will learn basic scooter operation, maximum effective braking techniques, turning skills and obstacle avoidance maneuvers, in approximately 5 hours of classroom instruction and approximately ten hours of “on cycle” training. Upon successful completion of the Basic RiderCourse, you will receive the Motorcycle Operator Training Course Completion Card (MSB-8), which is necessary for you to obtain a motorcycle endorsement on your driver’s license.

A private class can be set for up to two students, so you can take the class alone, or, if you prefer, with one more student for the same cost. Our certified, MSF RiderCoaches can adjust the pace of the class according to your learning progress, allowing the focus to be on you, and your riding skills. The classroom portion can be either set up at our classroom facilities, or we can come to your place of business or public setting, allowing us to tailor the lessons around your schedule. Once you successfully complete the Private Basic RiderCourse, you will receive the Student Completion card, required for you to obtain your motorcycle endorsement on your driver’s license.
