American Truck Training
Description

Elite training means carrier companies turn to us

American Truck Training is a commercial truck driving school that was formed to address the infinite need for new and experienced professional truck drivers in the U.S. Most major trucking carriers require that future “Over the Road” drivers graduate from a truck driving school so, job placement is almost guaranteed. Students are usually pre-hired before completion of a school. We aspire to provide job placement assistance while training students to receive their Commercial Drivers License .

If you’re wanting CDL training, and you’re going to pay for it out of your pocket, DO NOT consider this company. If you are collecting unemployment benefits and workforce, Indian tribes, etc are paying your tuition, then consider ATT. Do it, you got nothing to lose (more on this later). I plunked down the 5200 on my credit card to get the “discount”(bad move). Spent the first week in the classroom “learning”, what I could have 100% learned on my own, In order to get my CDL permit (there’s 2-3 CDL prep apps that are free to download that will get you ready for the written test). The instructor at ATT was a good, likable guy, but the curriculum was scattered and we spent about half of the time watching videos, that we could have watched anywhere, in an 88 degree classroom. So now I’m cleared to go to the yard. But I and others notice on our first yard day that 30ish % of the people in our week 1 classroom time aren’t there (more more later). Giving credit here, ATT was helpful in getting the required stuff handled…physical, required UA documentation, getting med card. I spent 2 days in the yard. 8 hour days. Out of the 8 hours, I got 6 minutes of time behind the wheel. Both days. 16 hours on the lot, 12 minutes driving a truck forward and back. After 2 days, I paused my training because of the lack of drive time and bc it was 110 degrees. My 52 yr old self don’t handle 7 hrs 54 minutes of doing nothing when it’s stupid hot. Here’s the more later part. If you are a pay my own way guy/gal, think about this. AT LEAST HALF of the students are there without having to put any of their own money down. Unemployment benefit recipients get free tuition. Some Indian tribers get free tuition. Do you think these entitlement recipients take the training as seriously as someone that pays their own way? The more more later part…why would 30ish% not show up to the yard? Think about it. Does this company really care about getting people to their CDL? Or are they taking workforce/tribe/other govt money knowing a sizable chunk will quit when they don’t pass the written test/realize it’s over their head? Yes, I have an axe to grind. Mentioned earlier, I paused my training in July. I arranged with my recruiter, at the time I paused,to resume my training October 3. I wanted to see it through, get my CDL, even though I had all this bad taste. The admin people couldn’t get their collective poop in a group, so my earliest restart would have been October 17. At that point, I was done. If it was just the admin mixup on the restart, I would probably be good. That’s not all it was. And the owner refused to refund ANY of my money. Oklahoma law isn’t on their side. Will update. Look for better options if you’re gonna lay out 5k of your own money Read Less

The classes are overcrowded. You are supposed get 160 hours of behind the wheel drive time. You do not get that here. They count the hours you spend waiting for your two, three if you're extremely lucky, turns to attempt the maneuver. Make sure you keep track of your own hours because they constantly screw that up.The individual instructors do know what they're doing. They will help you. But you have to ask. They will tell you they aren't there to make you learn, you have to want to learn and you have to study the manuals. The staff doesn't communicate with each other and the owner gives you nothing but double talk. He'll proudly state "We have 14 trucks." Which may or may not be true. What he won't tell you is that 3 or 4 of them are usually in the shop with mechanical issues and not on the yard. They go through recruiters like wet paper towels. Before I even started school I had two different ones contact me asking the exact same questions because they didn't share information. After both of them disappeared, a third recruiter called me while I was on the yard doing maneuvers and asked if I was still interested in coming to their school. When I told the owner about it he got mad at me for wasting his employees time. And wanted to stress how he personally fixed the computer glitch so that wouldn't be able to happen again. When I refused to listen to more of the smoke he was attempting to blow up my, you know where, he threatened to have me arrested for trespassing when I tried to walk away from him as he chased after me asking, "You can't win an argument so you walk away?" I personally witnessed two instructors have students attempt to push a truck out of a rut when it got stuck. Which happened quite a often until they started bringing in loads of gravel every week. I also saw one instructor threatening to poke out their own eye because another instructor tried taking over the maneuver being taught. Several weeks after I graduated the school, they had the audacity to message me and ask me to leave them five star reviews on Google and Facebook. I told them I had nothing good to say about Jerome Redmond so I wouldn't say anything at all. Unfortunately I am having to go back on my word. But there is a reason. They say they offer lifetime job assistance. They haven't helped me find anything. I have been in contact with the office several times and been told, "I will text you back." Last week the woman said, "Sorry, I've been out of the office until tomorrow. Let me see what I can do then." In the meantime, I graduated April 2, 2022 and I still don't have a job as of June 29, 2022. I believe the only reason this school is even in business is because the owner holds several positions on the Commercial Vehicle Training Associations boards Read Less

When I decided to get my CDL, I did a lot of research. Upon calling American Truck Training, they informed me of everything I needed to bring to start the process. After my consultation, they also advised me of th best financial aid options I needs to make my dreams come true. There was one issue. I had injuries my shoulder and was waiting to have it repaired. After speaking with Abby Hatton, the student services manager, she advised me of the steps to take to make sure that I would graduate prior to my surgery. I graduated on a Tuesday and had surgery that Wednesday. She also assisted with delaying my payments due to my recovery time being 3-6 months.. she gets an A+ in my book.
