Mr. Royals was very difficult to work with and has quite an attitude. Alabama has some crap DMVs and roads and I ended up getting my license in the state of Georgia. The Problems: Sometimes he would get distracted by a bunch of paperwork while we're doing a lesson and forget to give me instructions yelling at me for not making a turn when he never tells me to. Also doesn't help him turning on the radio and humming to some soul music during a session. I really wonder how those students on the pictures on his website manage to get through working with this guy and the reviews are questionable based on my experience. Whenever he wants me to use the gear shift he would rudely hit it multiple times just for me to look at it and use. You see the problem with him is that he has an insane expectation that his students new to driving remembers what he tells them to do after doing his instruction 3 or 5 times. I am a slow learner and it takes time for me to memorize his instructions but he yells at me for not doing them correctly. I remember once during a session he would make me drive through some ghetto neighborhood and make me stop Infront of multiple houses so that he could deliver people some kind of paper, I don't know if they were certificates or something but basically I was his UPS driver or Uber. His job is to teach me and explain in detail the proper ways of operating a motor vehicle and preparing for the road test, but instead he just gives me do this and do that and barely gives me details of why I have to do these things when driving, most of the time all I hear is his radio and humming. Another day we did a lesson during a heavy rainstorm and I didn't feel safe but Royals insisted we still do the lesson. It rained so hard, I could barely see where I was going. Communication with him on phone was a nightmare and I had a difficult time scheduling lessons with Royals. A different more calm collected coach that I worked with before Royals was easier to communicate and work with. Thank god I don't have to work with Royals again. Royals needs to control his temper and be calm and collective if his students are to learn how to drive on the road. Instead of making me feel comfortable and making me feel confident as his student, his attitude and lack of proper teaching made me feel like I wasn't ready to take the road test and I had a difficult time mentally and physically. On my last hours of lessons with him driving his Toyota he asked me if I want to take the road test but I said no and maybe I'll sign a contract for more hours of lessons with him again which I lied. I decided I wanted to get out and never comeback again. Its not worth spending over hundreds of dollars just to have lessons with him if he treats me this way. I'm not making this review because I failed a road test with him or because I have a grudge, I'm making this review so that people can understand that Royals is not to be highly regarded as a great instructor like what most other reviews say about him. I thought about just letting it be with this but I decided now that I'm a licensed driver I can write this review down. Read Less
